Teachers and School Staff,

I hope this email finds you well. As we enter this school year, I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone about the importance of being aware of latex-containing items in our classrooms and ensuring their prompt removal.

We have students and staff members within our school community who are allergic to latex, and their safety and well-being are of utmost importance. Exposure to latex can lead to severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening. Therefore, it is crucial that we take proactive measures to minimize the presence of latex in our school environment.

To help maintain a latex-safe environment, I kindly request that you take the following actions:

1. **Inspect Your Classroom:** As we start the school year and periodically throughout, please thoroughly inspect your classroom for any latex-containing items. This may include balloons, rubber bands, latex gloves, adhesive tapes with latex components, and other products made with natural rubber latex. ** Please ensure that if rubber bands are in your classroom they need to be the school-issued ORANGE bands.

2. **Replace Latex Items:** If you identify any latex-containing items in your classroom, please remove them immediately and replace them with latex-free alternatives- Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or the administration when seeking replacement. Be sure to check all supplies, decorations, and materials that students may come into contact with.

3. **Educate Students and Colleagues:** It's essential to educate our students and colleagues about the potential hazards of latex allergies. Encourage students to inform you if they have a latex allergy or if they suspect any latex-containing items in the classroom.

4. **Plan Latex-Free Activities:** When planning classroom activities or events, consider using latex-free materials to accommodate those with latex allergies. Please consult with me or other relevant staff for guidance on suitable alternatives.

5. **Be Prepared for Emergencies:** Familiarize yourself with the signs and symptoms of a latex allergy reaction, and know the location of emergency medical supplies, such as the EpiPens, in case they are needed.

By working together to create a latex-safe environment, we can help ensure the health and safety of all members of our school community. If you have any questions or need assistance in identifying latex-free alternatives, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or our administrative team.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to providing a safe and inclusive learning environment for all our students, it is greatly appreciated. Attached you will find a helpful guide with information related to Latex allergies.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out.

Best,

Nicole
