Mission Statement:
The Tri-Town Early Childhood Council is committed to initiating and
supporting the implementation of quality early childhood care and
education programs in the tri-town area. Its role is to serve as a
referral source for comprehensive services to young children and their
families. The council identifies common issues of young children and
families and advocates for responses and solutions. It links families
with health, social, nutritional, childcare, educational and
recreational programs and services. The council creates an atmosphere
that enables positive growth and understanding among children, parents,
childcare and education providers and the community. |
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE FOR WORKING FAMILIES
Through a grant from the Department of Early Education and Care, Community Partnerships for Children,
subsidies based on a sliding scale are available to working families to
help pay for the cost of a child's preschool or child care
program. Funding is available to children from age 2 years 9
months until they reach kindergarten age. In two parent
families, both parents must be working at least part time. In
single parent families, the parent must also be working at least part
time. To see if your family qualifies, go to Useful Documents to view
the Sliding Fee Scale. Any family whose income falls at or below 50% State Median Income, or if the family is 'at risk' below 85% State Median Income is eligible to apply. Applications are
available for download at Useful Documents- Information for Parents.
NOTE: Due to the state's current financial crisis, this funding is currently frozen. For the latest information contact the Early Childhood Office at 508-748-1863.

SCREENING SERVICES
Families concerned that their child's development may not be within normal limits are able to schedule an appointment for a screening. The screening looks at a child's hearing, vision, coordination, speech and language, motor skills and thinking skills. With input from the child's family, the screening may result in the following:
- the screening team finds the child is developing within normal limits for his/her age
- the screening team recommends that the child be rescreened in a few months. This may be the recommendation if the team felt that the child was not comfortable with the screening situation and that they were not getting an accurate picture of the child.
- the screening team recommends further evaluation in one or more areas.
Screenings are available three times a year for three- and four-year-olds and are conducted by the public school early childhood special education staff and are offered free of charge.
Screenings are also available three times a year for children from birth up to age three and are conducted by Early Intervention staff. Your health insurance will pay for screening services. If you have no health insurance, the screening will be provided free of charge.
Screening clinics rotate among the three elementary schools. All three clinics will include screening teams from an area Early Intervention Program to screen children birth to three and a preschool special education team to screen three and four year olds.
The schedule for screening clinics for school year 2009-2010 follows:
Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Sippican School
Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Center School
Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Sippican School
Appointments may be scheduled by calling Sippican School at 508-748-0100.
