When we return from the April
break, you will notice several important construction and safety changes that
will impact our daily routines at Rochester Memorial School for months to
come. During the week of April 5,
after school hours and on weekends, construction of an access road to the
site's new well is scheduled to begin.
Survey work around the perimeter of the building and the woods behind the
school will be taking place during the week of April 12. Earth moving equipment and tree
clearing equipment will arrive and construction is scheduled to begin during
the week of April 19 (vacation week).
Upon our return from spring
break, the gym door and back door that have been used for morning drop-off and
afternoon parent pick-up will be cordoned off and inaccessible. In the morning, parents should
continue
to use the back loop for drop-off
,
but students will now enter via Door #12.
Door 12 is located nearer the
second
stop sign
and is the door
located at the end of the Music room corridor
. Parents
who are meeting their children in the gym at the end of the day should plan to
enter via the same door. We will
have afternoon sign-out as usual, but at that end of the gymnasium. Given the activity near the back of the
building and parking areas, parents may wish to consider using the school bus
as transport for their children.
The back playground will
become the main construction site; back exit doors will be blocked and the play
yard fenced off. The south side
Kindergarten play yard will remain open.
Jersey barriers and chain link fencing will separate that play area from
the new access road that will enter from Hartley Road. Grade one through six recess
activities will be moved to the front side of the school building.
There will be no more visitor
parking or student pick-up in the bus loop during the school day.
A temporary fence will be erected along Pine Street and saw horses will
be in place at both ends of the bus loop.
This area will become our play area throughout the new construction
phases of the building project.
Recess personnel will be strategically placed near those areas to ensure
children's safety.
This is an exciting time to
be here at Rochester Memorial.
Each day students will be able to watch progress that takes place. As I receive construction updates each
Monday, I will post information to the Building Project News Page of our school
website. Click on ALBUM at the bottom of the menu on the left In the mean time, should you have any questions about our construction
project, feel free to call or e-mail with any questions.
