The Leadership Council, at Rochester Memorial School is a representative group of parents and faculty and community professionals. As a team, the Council suggests, drafts and helps to establish operational policies and practices within the parameters of School Committee policy and relevant state statutes.
The Council, in keeping with the spirit of the other schools of the Old Rochester communities and the Strategic Planning Committee that reconvened in the Spring of 2008, has adopted the following Mission Statement: At Rochester Memorial School it is our mission… |
To inspire all students to think, to learn, to achieve and
…to care. |
ROCHESTER MEMORIAL SCHOOL
The School Community | |
Rochester Memorial School is Rochester, Massachusetts’ sole elementary school. It serves as an educational, cultural, and community center for over four hundred families and the greater Rochester population. For some time, the town has been undergoing steady population growth. The Council has been aware of the growth’s impact on school programming, space, and culture. The Rochester School Committee, the Rochester Memorial School Building Committee and the Board of Selectmen have filed a Statement of Interest with the Massachusetts School Building Authority as part of a planned construction project that meets the unique needs of our town.
In September of 2008 the school opened its doors to 604 students in 30 classrooms, including four classrooms of students in kindergarten (three are tuition-based full-day classes) four classes of grades one, two, three, four and six. There are five fifth grade classes and two pre-school groups that, because of our increasing space crunch, are located at the Sippican School in Marion. Our average class size is 19 students per class. There is little diversity in Rochester students’ racial or ethnic backgrounds. Socio-economic status and/or income accounts for a larger level of diversity in student population. Thirty-five students, about 6% of our student population, qualify for free or reduced lunch. Outcomes of recent MCAS tests are contained in the ORR District’s Annual Testing Report. This plan contains educational and school/community goals for the 2007—2008 school year. | |
